Although you’ll occasionally be treated to a gorgeous CG still and the animated opening is brilliant, other aspects like dungeon backgrounds tend to be far more dull – basic 2D walls and some 3D objects but they’re often repeated over and over (I did appreciate that things like the forest having plenty of greenery and colour compared to some of the other underground labyrinths). It’s the other elements that aren’t quite as good. Monster designs are also girls in various states of undress, but it was amusing seeing things like the pirate gripping her scimitar or the spider hanging down from a web (both with their underwear riding down). What I liked most is that as you level them up and change classes they get new designs that are increasingly dramatic and powerful-looking, with things like Dark Lords and Valkyrie featuring huge wings at the back of their costumes or dark auras pulsing out of their swords. So the designs of the girls and Fried are brilliant – these are the wide-eyed anime designs that evoke somewhat of a nostalgic feel and are absolutely intricate in their detail, with tonnes of little flourishes to clothing and weapons which look great. Using the familiar anime artstyle of similar Aquaplus titles such as Utawarerumono , the graphics in Dungeon Travelers 2 are gorgeous and although they lose something when actually dungeon crawling, this is more than made up for elsewhere. So don’t go into Dungeon Travelers 2 expecting some remarkable story, but for what it is there’s a solid enough offering here with an interesting world that’ll keep you entertained while you trawl through endless labyrinths. I’m never really a fan of this level of lewdness, but it’s tolerable here and handled in a way that made me laugh rather than anything. Even the fanservice falls into the category of light-hearted comedy in the vein of “oh whoops I just tripped and all my clothes fell off” rather than the more extreme version found in other games like Criminal Girls. Part of this is because the humour is on point – Beard and Peggy constantly break the fourth wall and talk about the previous game ( ToHeart 2: Dungeon Travelers) as well as just the dungeon-crawling genre in general, such as conventions and why things like enemies always appear behind doors. There’s even lessons you can take in a classroom that reveal bits and pieces about where you are – it all feels surprisingly well thought out for what could otherwise come across as just another sleazy title.
#DUNGEON TRAVELERS 2 WALKTHROUGH HOW TO#
Perhaps the area Dungeon Travelers 2 excels most in is world-building – there’s all sorts to uncover here from the origins of the Royal Library to the Therians (talking animals) and their society. The game humorously explores this through the characters of Beard and Peggy, two notice adventuring Therians who you constantly bump into and provide various info about the land you’re in as well as hints and tips on how to progress. It’s very slice-of-life and mostly goes for ‘cute’ over everything else, but I enjoyed it well enough. With that said, it is more engaging than many of the fanservice-focused Vita titles I’ve played and I grew to like many of the characters (in spite of constantly finding them in compromising positions) who get fleshed-out back stories like Monica, the shopkeeper working overtime to pay off her debts or Lillian, the strange girl who constantly quotes the occult at you who has more to her than meets the eye. Under the instructions of Irina, Fried and his team are deployed to various areas around the kingdom to ensure that the demon god stays banished from this land and along the way help the local people solve their problems.Īs you can deduce from the above, there is an effort to tell a coherent story here but it’s painfully generic and basically just an excuse to have the male lead with a group of female characters fighting under him. Along the way he’s assisted by a variety of (female) companions (so basically a harem) including chief of the library Irina, his childhood friend and now powerful knight Alisia, helpful spellcaster Melvy and unhinged battleaxe Grishina.

See, Fried is a Libra who works in the Royal Library and has the power to seal away monsters in books, which comes increasingly in handy as more and more creatures seem to be lurking in various locations around Vitoria.

Years later, a series of events threaten to break the seals that keep the demon god locked away and it’s up to Fried Einhard to ensure this catastrophe doesn’t come to pass. DeveloperĪfter a war between humans and the demon god which left the latter sealed away, the kingdom of Vitoria existed in peace. Aquaplus and Sting deliver a by-the-numbers DRPG that focuses on heavy fanservice and tonnes of content, which has a few issues with basic missing features but manages to nail all the most important elements.
